Passing target: 80% (52/65)
You find a parallel parking space on the right side of a street. The space is about 5 feet longer than your car. What is your first step?
A approaches an open curb space between rear parked car C and front parked car B. The space is about 5 feet longer than A; A is not alongside either parked car.
Correct answer: Signal, then stop even with the car in front of the space, about 2 feet from its side.
Why
Choose a space that is about 3 to 6 feet longer than your car. The signal tells drivers behind you that you will stop and back up. From the start position, turn the wheel toward the curb and back in slowly, and watch for traffic, pedestrians and fixed objects. When you finish, your car must be about 1 foot from the curb and at least 2 feet from the cars in front and behind.
