You drive on a street with a broken white line between your lane and the lane to your left. What does this line tell you about that lane?
A travels in a lane with a broken white line on its left. The adjacent lane is empty, with no cars, arrows or route indicating its traffic direction.
Correct answer: Traffic in it goes your way, and you may move into it when it is safe.
Why
White lines mark lanes that carry traffic in the same direction, and a yellow line marks the left edge of your side of the road. When the white line is broken, you may change lanes, but Wisconsin law requires you to stay within one lane until you are sure the move is safe. Signal and look over your shoulder first, because a car in your blind spot does not show in your mirrors.
