Passing target: 80% (52/65)
The car ahead passes a mailbox, and you start to count: “one thousand one, one thousand two...” Your front bumper reaches the mailbox as you say “one thousand two.” The road is dry and traffic is light. What does this tell you?
Two snapshots show B passing the same roadside mailbox, then A reaching it two seconds later. Both cars keep their lane; dry road and light traffic are the supplied conditions. No adequate-gap label is present.
Correct answer: You are too close. Drop back until your count reaches at least four seconds.
Why
A time count grows with your speed, so it gives you the right distance without guessing feet or car lengths. Pick a fixed object such as a sign, a tree or a mailbox, and start to count when the car ahead passes it. Four seconds is the minimum for good conditions; add more time when conditions are worse.
