A broken white line is painted between your lane and the lane next to you. What does this line tell you?
A broken white line separates two lanes. Blue A and silver B both face right.
Correct answer: Traffic on both sides moves in your direction, and you may change lanes when it is safe.
Why
Line color shows direction: yellow separates traffic going opposite ways, and white separates traffic going the same way. Line pattern shows what you may do: a broken line may be crossed, and a solid line should not be crossed. Before you cross a broken white line, check your mirrors and blind spot and signal, because section 304.015, RSMo, lets you leave your lane only after you know the move is safe.
