Your turn-signal lights have stopped working, and you must signal a left turn by hand. How should you hold your arm?
Three left-arm gestures appear side by side: horizontal, elbow bent upward, and elbow bent downward. They are numbered 1 through 3.
Correct answer: Left arm straight out the window, level with the ground
Why
Missouri has three hand signals, each given with the arm out of the driver's window: straight out for a left turn, bent up for a right turn, and bent down for stopping or slowing (section 304.019, RSMo). Hand signals may replace signal lights when other drivers can see your arm, which makes them useful if your lights fail. Give the signal early, then put both hands back on the wheel to make the turn.
