Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are about to parallel park in an open space behind a parked car. Where should you stop to begin backing in?
A approaches an empty parking space behind B. A is still well behind B’s front bumper, before the position from which to begin backing.
Correct answer: Even with the car ahead of the space, about 1½ feet to the left of it
Why
Missouri's method has four steps: stop even with the car ahead at approximately 1½ feet to its left; back slowly with the wheels turned sharply right; turn the wheels sharply left once your front clears that car; then pull forward to center the car. In the driving test you must park within 18 inches of the curb in a 25-foot space in two minutes or less. If traffic is behind you, signal and let it pass before you start to back.
