You come to a stop sign. There is no painted stop line, but a crosswalk is marked across your lane before the intersection. Where must you stop?
A approaches a STOP sign and a marked crosswalk before the intersection. No stop line is painted before the crosswalk.
Correct answer: Before your vehicle enters the marked crosswalk on your side of the intersection.
Why
Section 304.351, RSMo, sets the stopping point in order: at a clearly marked stop line; if there is none, before the near-side crosswalk; if there is neither, at the point nearest the cross road where you can see approaching traffic. The guide also tells you to stop before the stop line or the crosswalk whenever a sign or signal requires a stop. After the stop, yield to pedestrians and to cross traffic that is close enough to be a hazard, and go only when it is safe.
