Passing target: 70% (14/20)
On an expressway, you are in the lane next to a tractor-trailer, level with the middle of its trailer. Both lanes are moving at the same speed. What should you do?
Blue car A travels in the left lane beside tractor-trailer B in the right lane, level with the middle of its trailer. The caption states that the two lanes are moving at the same speed.
Correct answer: Pass the truck steadily when it is safe, or drop back, so that you do not stay in its side blind spot.
Why
Large trucks and buses also have a deep blind spot behind them, and a tractor with a long hood can have a blind spot of about 20 feet in front. The bigger the vehicle, the bigger its blind spots and the more room it needs to stop and turn. In most fatal crashes between cars and big trucks, the car driver contributes to the cause, so how you drive near trucks matters.
