Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You are following a motorcycle onto a steel-deck bridge. The rider moves from the left part of the lane to the center of the lane. What should you do?
A follows motorcycle B onto a bridge with a visible steel-grid deck and side rails. B is in the center of the lane; the neutral card states that the rider has moved there from the left part of the lane.
Correct answer: Stay well back, since the rider is adjusting to the uneven surface and may move again.
Why
Riders may also change speed or lane position quickly to avoid gravel, debris, pavement seams, sewer or access covers, or small animals. At a railroad crossing, a rider may slow down, rise off the seat, and turn to cross the tracks at a right angle. Expect these moves and leave space so that you do not have to brake hard.
