Passing target: 70% (14/20)
On a two-lane road, you come up behind a bicyclist who is riding near the right edge. The oncoming lane is clear for a long distance, and passing is allowed. How should you pass?
A follows bicyclist B near the right edge of a two-lane road. The broken yellow center line permits passing when safe, and the oncoming lane is clear.
Correct answer: Slow down, then pass on the left at a safe distance, moving into the other lane as for a car.
Why
Bicyclists have the right to share the road, but they are hard to see and have no protection in a crash. A rider may suddenly speed up, slow down, swerve or change position to avoid a hazard in the road. Before you move back to the right, make sure you are well past the rider.
