Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You are driving toward an intersection. A person on in-line skates is moving along the edge of the road in the bicycle lane next to your lane. What should you do?
A approaches an intersection. B, a person wearing in-line skates, moves in the bicycle lane along the right edge beside A’s lane. The skater is ahead of A, before the intersection; a separate enlarged detail identifies the skates.
Correct answer: Slow down, leave extra space, and be ready for the skater to swerve, fall or cross in front of you.
Why
In New York, a person on in-line skates on a roadway has the rights and duties of a vehicle driver and may use a bicycle or skate lane. Because skaters can lose balance or turn without warning, give them the same extra space that you give a bicyclist. Take the most care near intersections and crosswalks, where their paths cross yours.
