Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You drive over a hill on a two-lane rural road and see a farm tractor ahead in your lane. It has an orange reflective triangle on its back. What should you do?
A has just come over a hill and sees a farm tractor ahead on a two-lane road. The tractor has an orange triangular rear emblem with a red border, repeated in an enlarged detail; a small side profile places A beyond the crest.
Correct answer: Slow down early, since the tractor may be much slower than you, and pass only when it is safe.
Why
In New York, the slow-moving vehicle emblem appears on most farm vehicles, construction equipment and vehicles drawn by animals. The law requires it on farm and road-construction machinery built to travel at 25 mph or less, and machinery built for speeds between 25 and 40 mph must show it together with a speed symbol. Rural mail delivery vehicles also carry it, and they stop often.
