Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You drive in the left lane of a three-lane expressway in heavy traffic. A sign shows that your exit, on the right, is 1 mile ahead. What should you do?
A is in the left of three expressway lanes, with heavy traffic in all three. A fact card reports the guide sign’s message: A’s exit is on the right, 1 mile ahead.
Correct answer: Move right one lane at a time now, with a signal and a check each time
Why
Exits come up fast at expressway speed, and a lane change in heavy traffic takes time. The manual tells you to plan your exit and move to the proper lane well before it, one lane at a time, with a mirror check, a shoulder check and a signal each time. If you miss your exit, do not stop, back up or cross the median: drive on to the next exit and come back.
