Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You drive in the right lane of an expressway through an interchange. A car in the acceleration lane on your right signals and tries to merge. The lane on your left is clear. What should you do?
A travels in the right through lane while B is ahead in the acceleration lane. The card states that B signals to merge; the lane to A’s left is clear.
Correct answer: Check your mirror and move left, or ease off, so that the car can merge
Why
The entering driver must yield, but a merge goes best when both drivers help. The manual tells expressway drivers to adjust their speed and lane so that others can enter safely. If the lane to your left is clear, check your mirror and blind spot, signal, and move over; if not, ease off a little to open a gap. Do not race the merging car, and do not brake hard, because the traffic behind you does not expect a sudden stop.
