Passing target: 80% (16/20)
Your car loses power on an expressway at dusk. You signal and steer it onto the far right shoulder. Two children ride in the back seat. What should you do next?
At dusk, A is stopped fully on the far-right paved shoulder of an expressway while B and C travel in the two through lanes. A card states that A lost power and two children are in its back seat.
Correct answer: Turn on your emergency flashers, and keep everyone away from the traffic lanes
Why
A car stopped on an expressway shoulder is in danger from fast traffic, and so are the people near it. The flashers warn other drivers that there is a hazard ahead, and Oklahoma law tells them to move over or slow down for a stopped vehicle with flashing lights. Stay well away from the travel lanes: do not stand behind or beside the car near the traffic, and do not let children get out near the road. Outside business and residence areas, Oklahoma law also requires a stopped vehicle to be off the traveled part of the highway when this is possible.
