Passing target: 80% (16/20)
An older entrance ramp joins the right lane of an expressway with no acceleration lane. A line of cars in the right lane is coming at highway speed. What must you do?
A approaches the end of an older entrance ramp that joins the expressway directly, with no parallel acceleration lane. Four silver cars travel in the nearest through lane.
Correct answer: Yield to the cars on the expressway, stop if needed, and enter when a gap allows
Why
Where there is no acceleration lane, you cannot build up speed beside the traffic, so you may have to wait at the end of the ramp. The manual says that you must yield to vehicles already on the expressway and move in only when a gap lets you enter without disturbing the normal flow. Drivers on the expressway should adjust their speed or lane to help you, but the duty to yield stays with you. When you are in, speed up to the flow of traffic without delay.
