You come to an intersection in a work zone. The traffic signal for your lane is green. A flagger in a reflective vest faces you and holds up a STOP paddle. What should you do?
A approaches a work-zone intersection with a green traffic signal. A flagger in a reflective vest faces the car and holds a STOP paddle; enlarged details show the same signal and paddle.
Correct answer: Stop, and go only when the flagger signals you to move.
Why
Flaggers control traffic through a work zone with STOP and SLOW paddles or with a red flag. They can see workers, equipment and one-lane sections that you cannot see. In a posted active work zone, the fine for failure to obey a person who directs traffic is doubled. Flaggers can also report unsafe or aggressive drivers to the police.
