Passing target: 83.3% (15/18)
A school zone speed sign shows a 15 mph limit from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The sign has no flashing lights. You drive through the zone at 2:45 p.m. on a school day. What is your speed limit?
An enlarged official school-zone time panel reads 7:30–8:30 AM and 2:30–3:30 PM. A separate current-time card says 2:45 PM on a school day; the top card states the given 15 mph posting and the absence of flashing lights.
Correct answer: 15 mph, because the time is in a period that the sign shows.
Why
Pennsylvania school zones have a 15 mph limit. Signs show where each zone starts and ends, and either flashing yellow lights or printed time periods show when the limit applies. A school zone speeding conviction puts 3 points on your driving record and brings a fine. Outside the times shown, obey the normal posted limit and still watch for children.
