You park facing uphill on a street with a curb on your right. Which way should you turn your front wheels?
A faces uphill, with a curb on its right. A separate side-profile line shows the uphill grade, and the question image does not select a wheel direction.
Correct answer: To the left, toward the middle of the street, so that the back of the front tire rests on the curb.
Why
The wheel angle is a backup in case the parking brake or the transmission fails. Facing uphill, a car rolls backward, so the tire must be set to catch on the curb. Facing downhill, or uphill with no curb, you turn the wheels to the right instead. South Carolina law also requires you to stop the engine, remove the key, set the brake and, on any grade, turn the front wheels so that the curb or the side of the road can stop the car.
