Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You are in the right lane and plan to turn right at the next corner. A bicyclist rides straight ahead on your right, near the curb, and will reach the intersection at about the same time as you. What should you do?
Blue car A plans a right turn while cyclist B travels straight near the right curb toward the same corner.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the bicyclist go through the intersection, then turn behind the rider.
Why
Tennessee law gives a person who rides a bicycle or an electric bicycle the same rights and duties as the driver of a vehicle. Most crashes between cars and bicycles happen when a driver turns left in front of an oncoming bicycle or turns right across its path. Before a right turn, check your mirror and your right side, and merge behind a bicyclist instead of turning across the rider.
