Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You follow a motorcycle on a two-lane road. Ahead is a railroad crossing with rough tracks. What should you do?
Blue car A follows motorcycle B toward rough railroad tracks on a two-lane road. A framed detail identifies motorcycle B; no following-distance value or action is marked.
Correct answer: Stay well back, because the rider may slow down sharply and weave to cross the tracks.
Why
A motorcycle has only two wheels, so rough tracks, metal grated bridges, wet roads and strong wind affect it much more than a car. The manual asks drivers to give a motorcycle enough following distance for the rider to steer around a hazard or stop, and more space on wet or slippery roads. Watch the rider early and give room before the hazard, not at it.
