Passing target: 80% (32/40)
On a narrow city street, a bicyclist rides near the middle of your lane, not at the right edge. Cars are parked along the right side of the street. What should you do?
Cyclist B rides near the middle of a narrow lane ahead of blue car A, with parked cars C and D on the right.
Correct answer: Stay behind the rider, because the rider may use the full lane here.
Why
Bicyclists ride as far right as practical only when that is safe. They may take the full lane to pass another vehicle, to avoid hazards such as parked cars, potholes or debris, or when the lane is too narrow to share. When a rider takes the lane, follow with plenty of room, and pass only when you can use the next lane and leave at least 3 feet.
