Passing target: 80% (32/40)
On a two-lane road with one lane each way, the car ahead has stopped with its left signal on and waits for oncoming traffic. To its right is a marked bike lane with no bicyclists in it, then a gravel shoulder. What should you do?
Blue car A follows B, stopped with its left signal on while C approaches. Only a bike lane and gravel shoulder lie to the right.
Correct answer: Stay behind it until it has made its turn
Why
Tennessee allows a pass on the right only when it is safe and there is room on the pavement: beside a vehicle that turns left, on a road with two or more lanes in each direction, or on a one-way street with two or more lanes. It is never allowed off the pavement or in a bike lane, and the manual also rules out parking lanes. Do not go around on the left of a car that signals a left turn, because it may turn across your path.
