You turn left from a two-way street onto another two-way street that has two lanes in each direction. Where should your turn start and end?
A approaches from a two-way street to turn left onto a street with two lanes in each direction. It is centered in the approach lane, with no route.
Correct answer: Start next to the center line and end in the lane closest to its center line
Why
The first rule of turning is to go from the closest lane in your direction to the closest legal lane in the new direction. For a left turn between two-way streets, signal for at least 50 feet, keep the left side of the car near the center line, and yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. If you need the right lane of the new street, finish the turn first and then change lanes when it is safe.
