Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
You drive on a dry, straight road with light traffic and good visibility. A white rectangular sign reads SPEED LIMIT 45. What does the 45 tell you?

Correct answer: 45 mph is the highest speed that you can drive here, even when it is clear.
Why
Speed limit signs are white rectangles because they state a law. The state, cities and counties can post lower limits where safety requires them. On interstate and other controlled-access highways with four or more lanes, the highest limit is 70 mph. A yellow advisory speed plate is different: it recommends a safe speed for a curve or another hazard.
