Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
On a rural two-lane road you want to make a U-turn just before the top of a hill. You can see only about 200 feet ahead before the road drops out of view. What should you do?
A approaches a rural hill crest. The road surface beyond the crest is physically hidden and the given view is about 200 ft.
Correct answer: Go on, and turn only where you can see at least 500 feet each way.
Why
During a U-turn your car blocks the lanes in both directions for several seconds. At least 500 feet of clear view each way gives other drivers time to see you and stop. If the view is short, drive on to a safe side road, or go around the block.
