Passing target: 70% (28/40)
At a railroad crossing, the gates are down and the lights flash. A long freight train passes, but the gates stay down and the lights keep flashing. What should you do?
Blue A is stopped before a lowered crossing gate. The freight train has just cleared the road on the nearer of two tracks, but a warning light is still active.
Correct answer: Stay stopped until the gates rise and the lights stop, then check every track.
Why
At a crossing with two or more tracks, one train can hide another train that comes from the other direction. Texas law makes it an offense to drive around, under or through a crossing gate while it is closed, closing or opening. Trains cannot stop quickly and always have the right-of-way, so a short wait is the only safe choice.
