Passing target: 70% (28/40)
At 7:40 a.m. on a school day, you pass this sign on a street where the normal limit is 40 mph. Its yellow lights are flashing. What speed limit applies to you?
A blue car approaches along a two-way street. A detail shows SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT 20 WHEN FLASHING with two lit yellow beacons; the card states a school day at 7:40 a.m. and a normal limit of 40 mph.
Correct answer: 20 mph, while the lights flash in the school zone
Why
A school zone limit is in force only at the times that the sign shows, often while its yellow lights flash before and after school. During that time, Texas law also bars hand-held phone use in the zone. Watch for children who step out between parked cars, and obey a crossing guard's signals.
