Correct answer: D. Stay behind it until the no-passing zone ends.
Why
DO NOT PASS is a regulatory sign. It marks a zone where passing is not allowed, often because you cannot see far enough ahead. Stay in your lane behind the vehicle until the zone ends. A PASS WITH CARE sign can mark the end of the zone. A yellow pennant-shaped NO PASSING ZONE sign on the left side of the road gives a similar warning.
Why the other answers are not correct
- A. The sign marks a zone where passing is not allowed, because the view ahead or other conditions make it unsafe.
- B. On this sign, PASS means to overtake another vehicle; the sign does not tell traffic to stop, so you drive on in your lane.
- C. The sign marks the start of, or a point within, a zone, and the ban goes on past the sign.
