Regulatory, Lane & Parking Signs
You approach an intersection and see this sign beside the road. What does it mean?

- ADrivers in the left and right lanes must both turn left
- BIn the left lane, you may turn left or go straight
- CThe left lane ends ahead, so you must merge right
- DIn the left lane, you must make a left turn
Show the answer and the explanationHide the answer
Correct answer: D. In the left lane, you must make a left turn
Why
This sign means that drivers in the left lane must turn left at the intersection. If you want to go straight, move out of the left lane early and safely; do not go straight from it. An optional lane-use sign looks different: it shows one arrow with two heads, such as left and straight, and lets you choose either movement from that lane.
Why the other answers are not correct
- A. Wrong: the sign applies to the left lane; drivers in other lanes are not required to turn left.
- B. Wrong: the sign shows the single movement required from the lane, so going straight from it is not allowed.
- C. Wrong: the lane does not end; it is a lane for left turns at the intersection.
