A black horizontal rectangle sign with a white arrow that points right and the black words ONE WAY inside the arrow.
  1. ATraffic on this street travels in the direction of the arrow.

  4. DThe right lane must turn in the direction of the arrow.
Show the answer and the explanation

Correct answer: A. Traffic on this street travels in the direction of the arrow.

Why

This sign marks a one-way street. All vehicles on the street must travel in the direction the arrow points. Do not drive on the street or turn onto it against the arrow, because that puts you head-on with traffic. Before you turn onto the street, check the arrow and turn that way. It is different from a lane-use arrow sign, which shows the movement for one lane.

Why the other answers are not correct

  • B. Wrong: the sign does not mean the street ends; it shows the one direction that traffic may travel on the street.
  • C. Wrong: ONE WAY does not mean one lane; a one-way street can have several lanes, and all of them carry traffic in the direction of the arrow.
  • D. Wrong: the sign applies to the whole street, not to one lane; lane-use signs show the turns for each lane.
