You drive north on a divided highway with a raised median and two lanes each way. On the southbound side, a school bus stops with its red lights flashing. What should you do?
A travels north in the right-hand carriageway of a divided highway with two lanes each way. A raised grass median separates it from southbound school bus B. The card states that B has stopped with flashing red lamps.
Correct answer: Continue with care; you are not required to stop
Why
Utah law does not require you to stop for a school bus with flashing red lights when the bus is on the other side of a divided highway. Traffic behind the bus, on its side of the median, must still stop. On a two-lane road, or on a four-lane road with no median, traffic in both directions must stop; on a road with five or more lanes, such as one with a center turn lane, opposite traffic need not stop. Children near a bus act without warning, so drive with care even when you need not stop.
