After you pull over for a fire truck that uses its siren and lights, you want to continue in the same direction. How close may you follow the fire truck while it responds to the emergency?
Separate enlarged details identify blue car A and red fire truck B. The card states that A has let B pass and that B’s lights and siren are on. A will continue in the same direction.
Correct answer: 500 feet behind the fire truck
Why
Emergency vehicles on a call can stop, turn or change lanes without warning, and crews need space at the scene. Utah law also does not let you stop within 500 feet of a fire truck that has stopped to answer a fire alarm. Do not follow an emergency vehicle to get through traffic faster.

At a four-way stop, a bicyclist slows almost to walking speed, yields to a pedestrian and to the car already in the intersection, and then rides through without a full stop. What does current Utah law say about this? You wait in a left-turn lane at a red arrow. A bicyclist is stopped in front of you in the same lane and signals a left turn. What should you do when the green arrow comes on?You parallel park on a busy street and want to get out on the traffic side. In your side mirror, you see a bicyclist who comes toward your car in the lane. What should you do?On a multilane highway, you drive on the right side of a tractor-trailer, just behind its cab. You cannot see the truck driver's face in the truck's side mirror. What does this tell you?You are halfway through an intersection on a green light when a fire truck with its siren and flashing lights comes up behind you. What should you do?A motorcycle rides near the left side of your lane ahead of you. The lane looks wide enough for your car to pass the motorcycle without leaving the lane. What should you do?
