Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You stop at a store for two minutes and leave your car alone in the parking lot. Which set of actions meets Utah law?
Correct answer: Stop the engine, take the key with you, shift into park, and set the brake
Why
Utah law does not let you leave a motor vehicle unattended until you stop the engine, lock the ignition and remove the key, put an automatic transmission in park (or a manual transmission in low or reverse), and set the brake. The rule applies to a short stop too. These steps keep the vehicle from rolling away and make it hard for a thief or a child to move it. The manual also tells you to lock the doors when you leave the vehicle.
