You want to wait about 10 minutes in your car for a friend. The only open curb space ends 10 feet from a crosswalk at a corner. The corner has no stop sign and no traffic signal. Where may you wait?
Blue car A approaches a curb space near a corner crosswalk. The space ends 10 feet from the nearest crosswalk edge, as shown by a bracket. The card says the driver plans to wait for 10 minutes.
Correct answer: At a space that is at least 20 feet back from the crosswalk
Why
Utah law does not let a vehicle stand or park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, whether or not a person is inside it. A quick stop to let a passenger get in or out is allowed, but a wait is not. A vehicle close to a crosswalk hides people on foot from other drivers, and it hides traffic from the people who cross. At a corner with a stop sign or a traffic signal, the distance on the approach is 30 feet.
