You park facing uphill on a road that has no curb. The edge of the road is on your right. Which way should your front wheels point when you leave the car?
A faces uphill beside the right edge of a road without a curb. The car is on pavement, with the gravel edge below it on its right. Its wheels are not yet set; an inset shows the uphill slope.
Correct answer: Turned to the right, toward the edge of the road
Why
When you leave a vehicle on any grade, Utah law requires you to turn the front wheels to the curb or the side of the road. The manual gives the steps: downhill, turn the wheels toward the curb; uphill with a curb, turn them away from the curb so that the tire rests against it; uphill with no curb, turn them to the right. Then put the vehicle in park and set the parking brake. If the brakes fail, the wheels send the vehicle away from traffic.
