You drive straight through an intersection on a green light in the left lane of a multi-lane road. You want to move to the right lane to reach a store just past the intersection. When may you change lanes?
Blue A travels straight through an intersection in the left of two lanes. An enlarged signal shows green. A store entrance lies just beyond the intersection on the right.
Correct answer: Only after you have cleared the intersection, and then only when it is safe
Why
Keep your lane through an intersection, because vehicles turn across it and pedestrians cross it from several directions. After you clear the intersection, check your mirrors, signal for at least two seconds, look over your shoulder, and move over only when there is a safe gap. Utah law says you may not move from your lane until you have reasonably determined that the move is safe.
