Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You finish a parallel park on a two-way street with curbs. Your right wheels are about 24 inches from the curb. What is correct?
A is parked parallel to the right curb of a two-way street. A white bracket shows the stated 24-inch gap between the right wheels and the curb; no legal limit appears.
Correct answer: You must move closer, because the wheels must be within 18 inches of the curb.
Why
A car that is parked far from the curb takes space from the travel lane, so passing drivers and bicyclists must move toward the center to get around it. West Virginia law (17C-13-4) requires the right-hand wheels to be parallel to the right-hand curb and not more than 18 inches from it. Park in the same direction as the traffic on that side, and center the car in the space.
