You are about to back your car out of a driveway onto a street. What is the correct way to back?
A is in a driveway about to back toward the street. No driver posture or backing path is visible in the question.
Correct answer: Check all around the car first, then turn and look through the rear window while you back slowly.
Why
West Virginia law lets a driver back only when it is safe and does not interfere with other traffic (17C-14-2). Small children and low objects can be in the area behind a car that the mirrors do not show. Do not back across other traffic lanes or through an intersection. A slow speed gives you time to stop if a person or a vehicle comes into your path.
