Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You park on a level city street to go into a store for two minutes. What does the West Virginia manual tell you to do before you leave the car?
Correct answer: Turn off the engine, set the parking brake, lock the car, and take your keys.
Why
A parked car that rolls, or that another person can start, is a hazard to the people near it. The parking brake holds the car if the transmission slips or the car is bumped. When you get out on the street side, look first for bicycles, motorcycles and large vehicles, because their drivers may not see your open door in time.
