Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You park facing uphill on the right side of a street that has a curb. Your passenger tells you to turn the wheels to the right, the same as on a hill with no curb. What should you do?
A is parked facing uphill with a curb on its right. A side-profile line identifies the uphill grade, without a selected wheel angle.
Correct answer: Turn them all the way to the left, away from the curb.
Why
The uphill wheel position depends on the curb. With a curb, turn the wheels away from it, so that a car that rolls back stops with its front tire against the curb. With no curb, turn the wheels to the right, so that a rolling car goes off the road and not into traffic. In both cases, shift to Park and set the parking brake.
