Oklahoma Permit Test Online at Home: What You Need and the Rules
Can you take the Oklahoma permit test online at home, and what do you need?
Yes. Service Oklahoma lets you take the written test online at home on a desktop or laptop with a webcam, a microphone, a stable internet connection and a quiet room. Phones and touch screens do not work. Under 18, a parent or guardian must be there for the identity check. You get 60 minutes for 20 questions, and you need 15 correct to pass.
Where the Oklahoma online written test facts come from
The equipment, steps, time limit, pass mark, retake rules and fees come from the Service Oklahoma written test page. The permit ages, the paper permit and the driver education waiver come from the Service Oklahoma Learner Permit page. The proctor rule from November 1, 2026 comes from the new text of Section 6-110 of Title 47. The one-day wait and the oral test come from the Oklahoma Driver Manual. The practice test and in-person test options come from the Service Oklahoma Driver Study Hub, and the 2025 test count from a Service Oklahoma news release of December 31, 2025. This guide is current as of 2026. Confirm the rules with Service Oklahoma (oklahoma.gov/service) before you drive.
What you need for the online Oklahoma written test
- A desktop or laptop computer with a front-facing camera. Touch screens are not supported, and you cannot take the test on a phone.
- A working microphone and a stable internet connection. The system uses the camera and microphone to check your identity and monitor the test.
- A quiet room.
- Your personal information to register.
- If you are under 18, a parent or guardian present for the identity check.
Who can take the Oklahoma written test online?
Under 18, you must be at least 14 years old, or at least 13 and a half if you live or work on a farm. At any age, your license must not be suspended in Oklahoma or any other state. Service Oklahoma launched the online test in 2025, and nearly 32,000 Oklahomans finished one that year.
The test age is not the permit age. A Learner Permit starts at 15 if you are in driver education, or at 16 without it.
The test is in English only. An oral test is given on request, and you may need an appointment.
How to take the Oklahoma written test online, step by step
- 1Sign up and choose Class D
Register on the Service Oklahoma written test page, pick the Class D test, read the rules and agree to the terms.
- 2Take two photos
The first photo checks that your camera works. The system uses the second as a control photo for the whole test. Glasses on or off, or hair or hands over your face, can affect the photo check, so keep your look the same.
- 3Prove who you are
Enter your personal information and answer the verification questions. If you are under 18, an adult (proxy) must be there for this part.
- 4Take the test
You have 60 minutes for 20 questions. You need 15 correct to pass, and you see your result right after you finish.
What if something goes wrong during the online test?
How much does the Oklahoma online written test cost?
Service Oklahoma charges no extra fee to take the written test online. Each failed attempt adds $4 to your account, and you pay it when the permit is issued. The fee to issue a Learner Permit is $42.50.
Example: you fail online two times, then pass in person. You pay $42.50 + (2 x $4) = $50.50 at the permit visit.
What to do after you pass the Oklahoma online test
- 1Visit a Service Oklahoma location or a Licensed Operator
Apply for your Learner Permit in person. Bring your primary ID, your Social Security number and, if you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian.
- 2Take the vision test and meet an examiner
You do both at the same visit. An online pass does not replace them.
- 3Use the temporary paper permit
If you pass the written and vision tests, you get a temporary paper permit until the plastic Learner Permit arrives by mail. Our guide on the Oklahoma Learner Permit explains the driving hours and rules.

Oklahoma online written test: common questions
Can I take the Oklahoma written test on my phone?
No. Service Oklahoma accepts the online written test only on a desktop or laptop computer. Phones, tablets with touch screens and other mobile devices are not supported. The computer needs a webcam, a microphone and a stable internet connection, because the system uses them to verify your identity and to monitor you during the test.
How many times can I take the Oklahoma written test online?
Two times. After two online fails, you must take the test in person at a Service Oklahoma location. The written test itself has no limit on attempts. By law, wait at least one day between attempts. Each failed attempt adds a $4 fee to your account, and you pay it when your Learner Permit is issued.
Do I have to take the written test if I did driver education?
Not always. Service Oklahoma can waive the written test when you show a driver education completion certificate at your permit visit. Parent-Taught Driver Education does not qualify for the waiver, so a teen who learns with a parent must still pass the written test, online or in person.
Can I take the Oklahoma written test somewhere other than home?
Yes. You can register for an in-person written test at a Service Oklahoma location or a Licensed Operator. Career Tech Testing Centers also give the test for a $25 fee, but you still visit a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office for the vision test and the permit. From November 1, 2026, the law permits a certified driver education instructor or designated examiner to proctor the written test.
