You enter a traffic circle and want to leave at the exit that is on your left, about three-quarters of the way around. How must you drive to reach it?
A approaches a single-lane traffic circle from the left and plans to leave through the upper exit, about three-quarters around.
Correct answer: Keep to the right of the island and go around it until you reach the exit.
Why
When every driver keeps to the right of the island, all traffic in the circle moves in the same direction, which prevents head-on conflicts. The manual also calls a traffic circle a rotary traffic island. If you miss your exit, stay in the circle and go around again instead of stopping or backing up. The same law covers one-way roads: on a road posted as one-way, drive only in the direction that the signs show.
