You are about to enter a traffic circle (roundabout). A car already in the circle is coming toward your entry from your left, and no one is on your right. What should you do?
A approaches a single-lane traffic circle. B is already circulating toward A’s entry from the left, and there is no other road user at the entry.
Correct answer: Let the car in the circle go by, then enter when there is a safe gap.
Why
New Mexico law has no separate roundabout rule, but it requires a driver approaching an intersection to yield to a vehicle that has already entered it. Many circles also have a yield sign at each entry, which means you slow down, stop if you must, and yield to traffic that is close enough to be a hazard. You must also yield to pedestrians who are crossing at the entries and exits. Inside the circle, follow the direction of the circulating traffic until you reach your exit.
