Passing target: 70% (21/30)
Your light is a steady green light, not a green arrow, and you want to turn left. An oncoming car is close to the intersection and is going straight. What should you do?
A faces a steady circular green light and intends to turn left. B approaches in the opposite lane toward the same intersection.
Correct answer: Wait for the oncoming car to pass, then turn when there is a safe gap.
Why
A green arrow is different: while it is on, there should be no oncoming or crossing traffic in your path. Before you turn, also check the street you are turning into, so a pedestrian there does not leave you stopped in the path of oncoming cars, and look once more toward oncoming traffic just before you go. Once you have yielded and signaled, New Mexico law says that oncoming drivers must then yield to your turn.
