Passing target: 80% (32/40)
On a rural highway, thick smoke from a forest fire blows across the road. You can no longer see the edge of the road. What should you do?
A is still in the travel lane as dense gray forest-fire smoke hides the road edge ahead. No stopping place, flashing lamp or recovery path is marked.
Correct answer: Pull off as far right as you can, out of the lane, and turn on your flashers.
Why
In fog or smoke, other drivers may not see a stopped car until it is too late. Stop on the roadway only when you have no other choice, and if you must stop, leave the travel lanes completely. If your car stalls or breaks down, move away from it to protect yourself. Think about waiting until the smoke or fog clears before you continue.
