It is noon, and thick fog comes in. You can see a parked car only about 300 feet ahead of you. Your headlights do not turn on by themselves. What does Wisconsin require?
A drives through bright daytime fog at noon with no headlight beam selected. The card gives the stem’s 300-foot visibility and lack of automatic headlights.
Correct answer: Turn on your low beams now, because you cannot see a vehicle 500 feet away.
Why
Wisconsin uses a distance test for headlights: turn on your low beams whenever you cannot see a vehicle or person about 500 feet away. You must also use them from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise. Fog can make lights necessary at noon, and your lights help other drivers see your car from the front and the back. In fog, also slow down and be ready to stop.
