You want to turn right at the next corner. A marked bike lane runs between your lane and the curb. A bicyclist rides in the bike lane a short distance ahead of you. What should you do?
A blue car approaches a right corner with B riding ahead in a narrow marked bike lane between A and the curb. The question has no crossing or turning path.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the bicyclist go first, then move into the bike lane just before the corner and turn.
Why
Many crashes happen when a driver turns right across the path of a bicyclist who goes straight. When you enter the bike lane just before the corner, the bicyclists behind you cannot come up on your right side. Check your mirror and look over your right shoulder before you move into the bike lane.
