Passing target: 80% (52/65)
You come down a freeway entrance ramp into the acceleration lane. Freeway traffic moves at about 60 mph. What should you do in the acceleration lane?
A is in the acceleration lane below the two freeway travel lanes. Silver B is ahead in the right freeway lane; the fact card gives freeway traffic as about 60 mph.
Correct answer: Speed up toward the speed of freeway traffic, signal, and check over your left shoulder.
Why
Merging is easiest and safest when your speed is close to the speed of the traffic that you join. Freeway drivers may slow down or move over to let you in, but it is your job to find a safe gap. Do not make another driver change speed or direction to make room for you.
