How Much Does a Wyoming Driver's License Cost? Permit, License and Fees

informational·how to guide·

Where the Wyoming fee numbers come from

The totals come from the WYDOT driver license FAQ. Wyoming Statutes section 31-7-113 sets the base fees and the $5 transportation information system fee. The WYDOT Lost / Renewal and Add/Change Information pages, the WYDOT Driving Privilege Withdrawal guide and the 2025 act HB0030 (in effect from January 1, 2026) give the renewal, replacement and reinstatement rules. WYDOT lists no total for the intermediate permit, so this guide gives the law fee plus the $5 fee. This guide is current as of 2026. Confirm the rules with the Wyoming Department of Transportation (dot.state.wy.us) before you drive.

What a Wyoming teen pays from permit to full license

A driver under 17 pays three fees on the way to a full license. The instruction permit costs $45. You can apply from age 15, and the permit is valid for one year. WYDOT says you may renew it as many times as you need, for $35 each time. From age 16, after the instruction permit, the intermediate permit costs $30 plus the $5 fee. You hold it for at least six months or until you turn 17. Under 17, a full Class C license also needs an approved driver education course. License fees: $45 + ($30 + $5) + $45 = $125. Ask the course provider for its price.

How much is a Wyoming license renewal, and how often?

A Class C renewal costs $35. A Wyoming license expires on your birthday in the fifth year after it is issued. Since January 1, 2026, this rule also applies to drivers under 21 (HB0030). WYDOT mails a renewal form 120 days before expiration. Renew in person, on oneWYO or by mail. Mail or online renewal is allowed once every ten years, so every other renewal is in person, with a new photo and a vision screening. Allow 30 days for a mail renewal. In person, bring the documents that you have not given before, such as two proofs of Wyoming residency no more than 45 days old.

What does a replacement Wyoming license cost?

A replacement (duplicate) license costs $25. HB0030 lowered the law fee from $30 to $20 on January 1, 2026, and the $5 fee comes on top. At a driver exam office, fill in the Wyoming Credential Application, pay the fee and have a new photo taken. If you did not renew by mail or online last time, you can also apply on oneWYO or by mail, and WYDOT uses your previous photo. You get a replacement without new tests when your license has more than one year left, your name has not changed and WYDOT has your digital photo and signature on record.

Wyoming driver's license cost: common questions

Is it cheaper to replace or renew a Wyoming driver's license?

A replacement costs $25 and a renewal costs $35. The replacement keeps the expiration date of your old license, so you still pay to renew later. A replacement without new tests also needs more than one year left on your license. You may renew up to one year before expiration, so with one year or less left, you can renew for $35 and get a new five-year license.

How much does a motorcycle endorsement cost in Wyoming?

Adding the motorcycle class (class M) to your license costs $11: the law sets $6, plus the $5 fee. A renewal of the motorcycle class is also $11, and a duplicate is $5. When your license has more than one class or endorsement at issue, the other classes cost nothing extra. Only class M has its own fee.

Do military members pay to renew a Wyoming license?

Active-duty military members pay no fee to renew a Wyoming license. They may renew by mail or online as often as necessary. Military dependents may also renew by mail or online as often as necessary, but they pay the required fee. When you visit Wyoming again, you go to a driver exam office for a new license with an updated photo.

Can I pay for a Wyoming license with a credit card?

Only at some exam stations, and they charge an additional fee for a credit or debit card. WYDOT accepts cash, a check or a money order, so bring one of those to be safe. For a question about a fee, call WYDOT Customer Service at 307-777-4800 before you go.
